A handcrafted diorama project focused on memory, reconstruction, and storytelling through miniature environments.

ORIGINAL IMAGE

This is the scene I wanted to remake. It’s originally a picture of my grandparents but my grandmother didn’t want to be posted online so I Photoshopped them out of the picture.

Finished piece

I really enjoyed this process of recreating the scene. It means a lot to me because it’s of my grandparents. I like this over head shot and I plan to do more in the future.

    I had 2 pieces that I glued together to make the bench bigger.

    I didn’t have paint so I used green paper and glue.

  • I used a piece of cardboard, sketched where I wanted everything to be, and began gluing palm trees down to it.

  • starting water

    I used more cardboard to build out where I wanted to put the water. Then I started hot-gluing fish rocks on top of it to mimic the water.

  • (The rocks also glow in the dark.)

  • I placed sea moss around the water to mimic the mountains, then I slid the piece and hot-glued it down to my display box. After doing that, I put glue on the cardboard so the sand could stick to it.

    After pourinf the sand, I glued the benches down.

    I wiped down the inside and the outside of the display box.
