A collection of books I’ve made and bound myself by hand.

Concertina Book

I created and illustrated 3 lyric books, each featuring lyrics from “Brighter Days” by Cajmere. It was produced using risograph printing, letterpress, and a polymer plate on colored paper. It was bound using the Concertina method.

Risograph front

I sketched this on my iPad using Procreate and made the sketches into a Risograph. This is the front of my Risograph.

I sketched some more images while listening to the song and put them onto the back of the Risograph.

I made this image in Adobe Illustrator; it is the cover of my book.

I got my image printed and began making my Polymer plate.

First Print

After finishing my Polymer plate, I ran it through the letterpress.

I didn’t want my Risographs to look repetitive so I decided to print them on different colored paper to see how the colors would interact with the colors of paper.

This is my favorite spread. I really like how the metallic gold and the fluorescent pink look on the black paper.

This is the other paper I decided to use for the letterpress.

Flag Book

I made this flag book. The words in this flag book are set in 8-point Goudy Bold and 10-point Cheltenham Bold. To make this flag book, I used felt and tissue paper. I assembled this book by hand.

Process

Prepping the letterpress

I wanted to print on felt for my book cover, so I measured out the space to place the felt. I had to use the letterpress differently to print on this material.

I began making a polymer plate of a fingerprint.
